RN-BSN Early Entry Admission Information
Admission criteria
The minimum requirements for admission to the RN-BSN Early Entry program are as follows:
- Enrollment at a participating RN-BSN Early Entry community college;
- Maintain a minimum overall cumulative and nursing GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale;
- Completion of required prerequisite courses with a minimum grade of C in each course;
- Successful completion of the NCLEX-RNĀ® examination by the end of their first semester of coursework in the RN-BSN program.

Technical Standards for Admission, Progression and Graduation (Technical Standards) are an integral component of the School of Nursing (SON) at the University of Mississippi Medical Center academic requirements that identify core professional nursing competencies in eight specific domains - critical thinking/cognitive competencies, professional relationships, communication, mobility, motor skills, hearing and visual skills, observation and tactile senses. Nursing students must meet all the requirements of the Technical Standards, with or without reasonable accommodations, in order to successfully progress through and graduate from their respective curricula.
Participating schools
The RN-BSN Early Entry program is a joint offering of our partner community colleges, including Coahoma, East Central, East Mississippi, Hinds, Holmes, Itawamba, Jones County Junior College, Meridian, Mississippi Delta, Mississippi Gulf Coast, Northwest Mississippi, Pearl River and Southwest Mississippi. If you wish to participate in the early-entry program, you must complete your prerequisites at one of these 13 institutions.
Progression and retention
In order to retain status in the RN-BSN Early Entry program, the student must meet the following conditions:
- Continuous enrollment as a full-time student at the participating institution;
- All required courses must be taken at the participating institutions in the sequence defined by the curriculum;
- Minimum overall cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.0, on a 4.0 scale and an overall nursing GPA of 2.0;
Minimum grade of "C" in each prerequisite course;- In the event a student is dismissed from the RN-BSN Early Entry pathway, they may apply for regular admission to the RN-BSN program.
Matriculation into RN-BSN program
Upon completion of the ADN program at the participating institution, if you meet the progression and retention criteria and have completed all prerequisite courses (with a minimum grade of C in each course), you will be admitted to the RN-BSN program at the University of Mississippi School of Nursing. Official acceptance is contingent upon the successful completion of several UMMC requirements, including a background check.
